Speech Therapy?

We met with a speech therapist again yesterday to do a 6 month follow up evaluation on Trevor's speech or lack there of;). He has about 15-20 regular words and 15-20 signs. The therapist was very encouraging and impressed in regards to his receptive vocabulary and overall comprehension/intelligence. However, the expectations for Trevor's age with verbal vocabulary is 50-100 clear words. The therapist's concern is that Trevor will soon get frustrated because he can't properly voice what he would like to say and she believes therapy will help. He hasn't become frustrated at home or school yet because he has found other ways to get what he wants/needs. I'm still a little reluctant to start therapy this young. I spoke with his teachers today and they stressed that they were not worried about him and he's in the same boat as other children in his class. I'm fully aware that several of his peers are using many more words, but I'm just hopeful that everyone learns and matures at their own speed. For now, I believe our plan is to wait a few more months (after he turns 2) and reassess the idea of starting some speech therapy. I have definitely seen improvements in just the last month.

On a lighter note, we received the school picture proofs today!

Here's my big sweet boy who has actually been behaving pretty well the last 2 weeks...(knock on wood!)

Pout Face

I never thought I'd say this, but in the last few days, Trevor (22 months) has been easier than Charlotte (5 months). I'm not sure if Charlotte is going through a growth spurt, teething, or what, but she has been an arm full. Has to be held every moment (usually requesting that you be standing while holding her) and is wanting to nurse much more frequently. So, today I decided to start some solid foods. Just oatmeal so far, but I'm planning to pick up some more fruits and veggies soon. Hope this helps! We've been seeing too much of this pouting face:(.

Easter 2013

I finally uploaded our Easter weekend pictures!  Not super exciting, but we had a nice Easter Egg hunt with friends, which included a surprise visit from the Easter Bunny himself.  All the better, because the Easter Bunny did not visit the Gill household Sunday morning.  We had a little talk with the Easter bunny and decided his limited time was more valued visiting older children this year.  We'll be happy to see him next Easter!

Since I hadn't planned on having an Easter basket for Sunday morning, I wasn't planning on buying them (actual baskets) until next year.  Well, I (mom of the year) forgot that an Easter basket was necessary for the Easter Egg hunt!  We arrived for the Hunt and every other child had their pretty, personalized basket and began their search.  I look at poor Trevor who actually is really interested in gathering as many eggs as possible and is left to use my cooler bag to collect eggs.  Of course, he could have cared less and loved picking up eggs regardless of his basket or purse-like bag.

Neither child was too fond of the Easter Bunny

Trevor didn't want to let go of the football or the power wheels.  He thought he'd hit the jackpot.

The boys loved the trampoline and so did the parents.  Lots of contained fun.

And Sunday, we went to Church.  Wanted to get a good family photo, but the weather was pretty dreary.

And finally, Charlotte with her sweet Great Dot Dot!

Charlotte- 5 months!

This is going to be a shorter monthly post... No doctor's appointment, so no official stats to post.

Our sweet little girl is growing fast and stronger by the day. She loves to smile and will almost always smile for the camera unless she's in a picture with others! Still hasn't tried any other foods beside my milk. Well, she has actually had a few extremely brief tastings of "treats" that Trevor has given her. These include, but are not limited to chex mix, Cheerios, and popcorn... Charlotte is still sleeping well, no signs of teething yet. She still loves her wubbanub!  She is interacting a little more with her big brother and will entertain him by smiling back at him while he plays.

So very happy and grateful to have this sweet little thing join our family! Time for bed!:)

Racing

Wow, 2 posts in one afternoon, both kids must be napping well. (But, still no Easter pics)

We had our half marathon this weekend. My major thought Saturday morning behind "why did I think this was a good idea?" was "thank goodness I didn't sign up for a full marathon at this point." These races always seem so manageable ahead of time and then creep up so quickly!  Luckily, I love love love my gym child care so I do get plenty of chances to get a workout in, however those workouts typically don't include the long runs that I should be doing to adequately prepare well. But, as a motivator to get back into shape after child birth, I convinced Alec to do the race along with myself and a friend (Kelly) and off we went.

My last half was when Trevor was 5 months old and now Charlotte is just shy of 5 months. While the race wasn't completely awful and I was happily surprised by my time, I do not plan on signing up for another half or full marathon anytime soon!!

My favorite part of the course besides the beautiful houses In Irving and Fisher Park, were our cheer leaders who actually clapped as we ran by.... Trevor with his pals, their mom ran with us too!

Little Charlotte stayed home with Poppi, although I wish we would have gotten a picture with her to compare her to Trevor in the below pic.

This was a picture was taken from our half marathon after Trevor was born.  I looked it up and had gotten 1.41 min in November of 2011.  This year I got 1.40 min.  You can see we apparently like blue running gear.

And the BEST part of marathons, (full or half) is the training the week before and after... NONE!  Time for a break.

Farming

I wasn't going to write a post until I uploaded our Easter shots, but that could take months (just like the NYC ones that still haven't been uploaded FROM CHRISTMAS), so I decided to go ahead and proceed with current events from my phone pics;)

We've been waiting for a warm day to head to my grandparent's house and today was the perfect day. We needed it to be warm because Trevor appears to have no concept of cold weather and only wants to stay outside and play when we visit there resulting with a freezing and whining mama.  Even though we haven't taken him to Disney, I feel confident that he would have more fun at my grandparent's farm than any amusement park right now. Best part, it's free entertainment.

Tractors, golf carts, big wheels, trailers, riding lawn mowers, dogs, they've got everything necessary to keep him amused for hours outside. And they even have a wonderful babysitter for Charlotte (my grandmother) who can hold Charlotte while I follow T Man around.

First he got to sit in the driver's seat

Then got to go for a ride! Look closely, someone is standing by the window.

And off they go... (Lucky for Trevor, his Great Grandpa has lots of BIG and LOUD toys)
