We met with a speech therapist again yesterday to do a 6 month follow up evaluation on Trevor's speech or lack there of;). He has about 15-20 regular words and 15-20 signs. The therapist was very encouraging and impressed in regards to his receptive vocabulary and overall comprehension/intelligence. However, the expectations for Trevor's age with verbal vocabulary is 50-100 clear words. The therapist's concern is that Trevor will soon get frustrated because he can't properly voice what he would like to say and she believes therapy will help. He hasn't become frustrated at home or school yet because he has found other ways to get what he wants/needs. I'm still a little reluctant to start therapy this young. I spoke with his teachers today and they stressed that they were not worried about him and he's in the same boat as other children in his class. I'm fully aware that several of his peers are using many more words, but I'm just hopeful that everyone learns and matures at their own speed. For now, I believe our plan is to wait a few more months (after he turns 2) and reassess the idea of starting some speech therapy. I have definitely seen improvements in just the last month.
On a lighter note, we received the school picture proofs today!
Here's my big sweet boy who has actually been behaving pretty well the last 2 weeks...(knock on wood!)
